Photography
Like most designers I harbour secret desires to become a professional photographer.
Experiments in Tilt-Shift
In recent months I have been running some tilt-shift experiments on some of my old photographs. The results have been varied but I have enjoyed the process.
MV Plassy
MV Plassy, or Plassey, was a steam trawler launched in late 1940 and named HMT Juliet in 1941. She was renamed Peterjon and converted to a cargo vessel in 1947. She was acquired by the Limerick Steamship Company in 1951 and renamed Plassy.
On 8 March 1960, while sailing through Galway Bay carrying a cargo of whiskey, stained glass and yarn, she was caught in a severe storm and ran onto Finnis Rock, Inisheer, Aran Islands.
The Burren Co. Clare
The Burren national park is located in Co. Clare, Ireland. It consists of rolling hills and limestone pavements, which can give the landscape a magical and other worldly feel. It is one of these places that one never tires of seeing.
Up Close with Some Insects
Whenever the weather permits and conditions are right I will try to take the opportunity to get close up with some insects, though sometimes annoying they are truly fascinating little creatures.
Inch & Surrounding Countryside
Inch consists of three miles of beautiful golden sand jutting out from the Dingle peninsula. It is surrounded in all directions by some of the most stunning scenery in Ireland.
New York
So what do you do when you find yourself wandering around Manhattan in the middle of winter?
Red Hook
Red Hook is a fascinating area of Brooklyn that is currently undergoing a period of urban renewal. Not the most touristy of areas but still worth a look.
Bawnboy Workhouse
Also known as the Union Workhouse and dating from 1852 it served the poor and destitute of the village of Bawnboy and surrounding areas. Though abandoned and allowed to fall into ruin it still retains echoes of its grim past.
A Little Trip to London
I don’t get to visit London nearly as much as I would like. I have always had an affinity her and there is a part of me that would love to live there.
